Part-Time Marketing & Events Coordinator

We are actively searching for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Marketing & Events Coordinator to increase our organization’s visibility and plan top-notch, engaging events and marketing campaigns. OCMS provides member support through education events and webinars, peer-to-peer conversations, online resources, trainings and advocacy efforts. Membership dues help cover costs to deliver this programming. As the primary source of our operating funds, we seek to expand and enhance dues revenue. This position works closely with the Executive Director, Executive Council, and community volunteers.  If you are an amazing multi-tasker and would list strategizing and implementing initiatives for membership growth as one of your best skills, we want to hear from you! 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, information management, communications or equivalent degree or professional experience required.
  • Meeting, event, and webinar planning experience.
  • Two (2) plus years’ experience in digital and social media communications and digital marketing.
  • Outstanding ability to learn new software programs and pick up on new tasks and programs quickly and without much guidance.
  • Expert with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  •  Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software preferred but not required.
  • Ability to commit to 20 hours per week for 6 months, with the opportunity to increase hours seasonally, and with some flexibility around events. This position may continue into 2022 depending on funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating logistics and volunteer needs for key OCMS events, including the Annual Meeting, New York State Fair booth, and other education and fundraising events (virtual and in person).
  • Developing and overseeing member recruitment, retention, and growth strategy including materials development, targeted social media strategies and events.
  • Cultivating relationships with members and making direct solicitations.
  • Writing and sending email content that engages OCMS membership, raises money, and advocates for action to create a more connected community.
  • Overseeing the organization’s social media presence and posting compelling content to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., and implementing social media plans to support events, campaigns, fundraising activities and other communications initiatives.
  • Regularly updating the OCMS website and database (strong preference for candidates with Wild Apricot experience).
  • Partnering with other non-profit organizations to reach new audiences through email campaigns and events.
  • Engaging local media outlets through press releases and advisories.
  • Supporting organizational fundraising through grant writing and designed materials that make the case for our mission and programs.

COVID-19 Considerations

  • Remote interview process.
  • Due to COVID 19, OCMS employees are working remotely but expect to be back in the office by fall of 2021.
  • OCMS offers some flexibility on working location, with an expectation that at least half of working hours take place in the office.

Summer 2021 Communications and Social Media Intern

Founded in 1806, the Onondaga County Medical Society (OCMS) is the premier professional association for physicians in Central New York. At over 1,000 physician members, OCMS is among the largest and longest tenured business entities found within our community, representing a diverse group of medical students, residents, and physicians from across all specialties and in all settings. For over two hundred years, the Medical Society has promoted the ethical and competent practice of medicine in our region. 

We are seeking an intern who has a passion for community engagement and is looking for hands on experience in website maintenance, event planning and creating social media content. The internship will start June 2020 and run until September (with possible extension). This is a PAID internship, $15 per hour, for part-time or full-time enrolled college students, and will require your availability to work a 12- to 15-hour work week.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to): Work closely with the Executive Director on content and marketing strategies. Update all social media platforms. Be involved with creative brainstorming on how best to utilize and capitalize on social media platforms. Attend events and create posts for social media.

Requirements: Previous social media content creation. Ability to work independently but feel comfortable working in a team. Flexible schedule required, as some events may run long hours (the occasional meeting and throughout the entire New York State Fair, where you will help staff the Medical Society’s booth for physicians and health care professionals). Must have own transportation to attend events and run errands as needed in the Syracuse area (mileage reimbursed).

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, experience with video editing, and strong internet skills required. Wild Apricot website and database management experience a plus!
